270 years of Riedel

Riedel Wine Glasses & Decanters

Riedel has made glass since 1756, and in 2026 the family-owned company marks 270 years. The idea behind every Riedel shape: the glass changes how you experience the wine. Start with this season's offers, then explore the full range.

The Riedel story

Founded in 1756 and still family-owned after 11 generations, Riedel marks its 270th anniversary in 2026. In the late 1950s, ninth-generation Claus J. Riedel recognized that the shape of a glass influences how we perceive a wine's aroma and taste. His Burgundy Grand Cru glass, designed in 1958, led to the handmade Sommeliers series in 1973, and grape-varietal-specific glassware has been Riedel's calling card ever since. Today the company is led by Georg J. Riedel (10th generation) and Maximilian J. Riedel (11th generation).

Find your Riedel collection

  • Vinum: introduced in 1986 as the very first varietal-specific machine-made glass, and still Riedel's best-selling series. Dishwasher safe.
  • Veloce: launched in 2022 and premium machine-made at Riedel's factory in Weiden, Germany. It looks and feels handmade, and each glass is inscribed on the base with its intended grape variety.
  • Superleggero: the 2023 machine-made collection created in homage to the 50th anniversary of Sommeliers. Riedel says it includes the largest, thinnest and lightest glasses it has ever produced by machine.
  • Drink Specific Glassware: developed with bartender Zane Harris and introduced in 2019 for cocktails and spirits. The Rocks glass has a built-in 2 oz / 60 ml pour line.
  • Sommeliers: the handmade series introduced in 1973, the origin of Riedel's grape-varietal-specific shapes.
