The Opinel No.09 Folding Oyster Knife solves the problem of carrying a shucker: the blade folds into the handle and locks closed, so you can take it to the beach, on the boat or to a backyard oyster roast without wrapping it in a towel.

The short, robust stainless steel blade (6.5 cm) is blunt along the edges and sharp only at the point, the right profile for finding the hinge and twisting the shell open. Opinel centers the blade on the knife's axis to make opening easier, and it works on both cupped and flat oysters. The padouk wood handle is a dense African hardwood, purple-brown to pink with fine grain, chosen because it resists moisture and swelling around water. The Virobloc safety ring locks the blade open while shucking.
