The No.08 is the flagship size of the Opinel collection. Its 3.35-inch Yatagan blade is Sandvik 12C27 modified stainless steel, a martensitic steel hardened to 55-57 HRC that resists corrosion and needs no special maintenance in ordinary use. The handle is varnished, PEFC-certified beech wood from eco-managed forests in France's Jura and Vercors regions, and the Virobloc safety ring, invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, locks the blade open and closed.

The faux-leather sheath is durable but light, and threads onto a belt or backpack strap without getting in the way.
